Autumn McKenzie

DVM & Owner

Originally from Hong Kong, Dr. Autumn McKenzie always had an interest in science and medicine, and focused her energy on animal medicine after being inspired by an equine veterinarian. Dr. McKenzie earned her degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Florida in 2007. She enjoys developing strong doctor, client, patient relationships and uses these bonds to keep pets feeling their best. Dr. McKenzie’s areas of professional interest include preventive medicine, dentistry, and soft-tissue surgery.

When Dr. McKenzie is not practicing high-quality medicine, she savors time horseback riding, reading, playing tennis, traveling, and spending time with her husband and two children. At home, Dr. McKenzie has three pugs, Auggie, Rocco, Pickle, and a yellow-belly turtle, Turbo.

Dr. McKenzie became a partner and owner at Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital in April of 2017.

Karen Tyndall

DVM

Born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Dr. Karen Tyndall wanted to be a veterinarian for as long as she can remember. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian College (now St. Andrew’s University), and went on to earn to her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. In 2009, Dr. Tyndall joined the team at Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital.

Dr. Tyndall enjoys just about every aspect of veterinary medicine—internal medicine, surgery, behavioral counseling, and the relationships she forms with clients and their pets. She primarily cares for dogs and cats, and will occasionally see pocket pets like guinea pigs, rats, and mice. She has professional interest in feline medicine and is happy to provide care for even the feistiest of kitties.

Dr. Tyndall also has two furry children at home; Riley, a sweet and handsome hunk of a kitty, and Stevie Ray, a silly, adorable, and mischievous little boy kitten. Though she doesn’t have any dogs at this time, she plans to add to her pet family soon.

In her free time, Dr. Tyndall likes to make jewelry, meditate, kayak, listen to music, and sing. In fact, Dr. Tyndall used to have a second job as the female singer of a pop, rock, and blues band but left the group once she became a mother. She shares a home in Madeira Beach with her husband, Peter, and elementary-aged daughter, Sara, and has an adult stepdaughter who lives in Hollywood, California.

Kim Donovan

DVM

Dr. Kimberly Donovan, Veterinarian and Medical Director, received her degree in veterinary medicine from Ross University in 1997. Her path to becoming a veterinarian began as a child, and she describes her experience growing up with cats and dogs as an important part of her happiness and wellbeing. She learned many valuable lessons caring for her own family pets: forgiveness, unconditional love, patience, responsibility, and determination. These valuable lessons and the bonds she developed with her own pets encouraged her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Dr. Donovan feels that helping other pet owners maintain and cherish the irreplaceable bonds they have with their pets is a vital part of her veterinary ideology. In addition, Dr. Donovan volunteers her time to teach pet CPR training to first responder students and anesthesia at SPC to veterinary technology students. Her areas of professional interest include feline medicine and dermatology.

At home, Dr. Donovan has three cats named Smokey, Onyx, and Momma. In her free time, Dr. Donovan enjoys dancing, horseback riding, and indulging in Italian cuisines.

Dr. Buonasera graduated from the University of Florida with her veterinary degree in 1987. She joined Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital in 1989. Lynn says that when she was three or four, her mom took her to her god-parent’s house. She made the statement that she wanted to be a doggie doctor and has never changed her mind. Lynn currently has three cats: May-Li, Tuxie and Sophie. Her favorite part of the job is seeing her clients and their pets, helping sick pets get better, surgery and dentistry. She also likes seeing her occasional exotic pets.

Fransia Markou

She attended the University of Florida School of Veterinary Medicine for her clinical training, and her areas of professional interest include preventative medicine, dentistry, surgery, client relationships, and shelter medicine. Dr. Markou was inspired to become a vet after her lifelong love for animals and a passion for their wellbeing. Dr. Markou was born and raised in Clearwater, and currently resides there. She has a rescued Pitbull named Roscoe, and German Shorthaired Pointer named Brody.
