If you are worried about any aspect of your pet’s health, do not hesitate to schedule a medical assessment. To ensure an accurate diagnosis, we consider every aspect of your pet’s health, beginning with a comprehensive assessment of your pet’s external health. Your veterinarian will look at your pet’s eyes, ears, and skin and check the vital body systems for any abnormalities. For the things that a physical exam alone cannot reveal, we perform blood and urine tests as needed. If a concern is detected, your veterinarian may recommend further diagnostic testing, such as radiology and ultrasound.
Radiology (x-ray) provides valuable information about your pet’s bones, gastrointestinal tract (stomach, intestines, colon), lungs, heart, and genitourinary system (bladder, prostate). Our veterinarians use radiology alone and in combination with other diagnostic tools to accurately and quickly diagnose medical concerns.
At Oakhurst Veterinary Center, we proudly utilize digital x-ray technology to capture the clearest image. This technology allows us to diagnose your pet’s condition with the greatest speed and accuracy. Plus, it uses less radiation than traditional radiology, making it safer for your pet.
While radiology provides a picture of your pet’s bones and a basic outline of the internal organs, ultrasound allows your veterinarian to take an even closer look at your pet’s vital organs. Ultrasound is a noninvasive diagnostic tool that uses sound waves to create an image of the internal organs and other structures inside the body. It can be used to evaluate the health of the heart, kidney, liver, and bladder, detect cysts and tumors, and monitor pregnancies.
Our veterinarians often use ultrasound in combination with radiology to confidently diagnose medical conditions.
Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital is equipped with an on-site diagnostic lab. Being able to analyze fecal samples, urinalysis, skin scrapings, and various blood tests in-house makes for a speedy, yet accurate, diagnosis. So, what does this mean for your pet? In many cases, test results can be shared within minutes and treatment plans can be devised before you even leave our hospital! This is highly beneficial for sick or injured pets who need immediate treatment.
